I've been lacking on my blogging duties lately. There isn't any good reason why. I just have. A little over a week ago, I left my full time job. Between looking for a new job and entertaining a toddler, I've been really busy. Ridiculous busy.
Who wouldn't want to spend all of their free time with this guy?
Cullen is really becoming accustomed to baked goods being in the house. He knows that he usually gets to see them shortly before they leave, and we don't eat a whole lot of them. Sometimes, he gets upset that the cookies aren't for him, and other times, he embraces the opportunity to eat the leftover icing. He loves choc-o-laut.
Last Saturday, we headed over to the Bacot's house for play time and dinner. Next time we're there, I'm definitely going to swim. The boys had a great time playing, swimming, and jumping on the trampoline, and the grown ups had fun visiting. Cullen keeps talking about Brady and all of Brady's cars. It's the little things in life.
Cullen has always showed a musical inclination. He loves to sing, and he'll try any musical instrument he can get his hands on. He really likes playing with James' guitar, so we decided to bring out the ukulele for him. Cullen had so much fun plucking the strings and singing songs. So cute.
During my "sabbatical," my college roommate, Laura, came for a visit. She is incredibly busy, so I can't be any more grateful that she made the trip down. It has literally been years since we've seen each other, so it was great to catch up and absolutely amazing for her to finally meet Cullen. He is in LOVE with Laura.
While she was in town, we managed shopping, dinners out, and lots of baking. One thing that Laura and I will never completely "get" about each other is our height difference. I've spent my entire life wishing I was a few inches taller. That may or may not have a lot to do with why I always wear heels. Laura is already tall. She isn't as big a fan of heels as I am. Here she is on the floor at Dillard's comparing heel heights between two shoes. I convinced her to go with the taller ones.
While I'm taking some time off, I'm hoping to get several projects off of my to-do list. I've been meaning to digitize over one hundred years of family photos. I've been meaning to make a spare set of sheets for Cullen's bed. I've been meaning to clean out the pantry. The list goes on and on. Oh my goodness, does it go on. At this point, I haven't done a whole lot, but it will get done.
Last week, I finally got around to properly disposing of the sharps containers we had in the house. For medical reasons, we have had one or more sharps containers in our home for years. When we lived in Austin, our doctor took the containers. Here, it is our responsibility. With the recommendations from a hospital and one of our favorite personal nurses, I found a way to get all of it out of the house. It only took an hour, but I had been pushing the idea off for a while. I'm so happy to have that one item checked off of the list.
In between interviews and meetings, I've been trying to squeeze in play times for Cullen. Last week, we made it over to play with Hadley. In an effort to impress the ladies, Cullen put on a tutu and ribbon halo of sorts. As soon as I started taking pictures, he took the clothes off. I can't help but laugh looking at this one, because he reminds me of Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura.
I'm not sure if Cullen actually appreciates it, but he has recently gotten to accompany me on several of my errands. He's a great little helper at the grocery store, and he loves trying samples. This is really helping as we branch out into new foods. In the past week, I've seen him eat chicken, beef, and carrots, just to name a few. I love that he is trying new things, and I hope it doesn't stop anytime soon.
With fewer office hours, I'm getting plenty of time to bake. This is a lemon meringue pie for an order. The meringue looked significantly more impressive after the pie had been cut into.
A couple of nights ago, James let Cullen pick out his own pajamas. When he picks out his own clothes, he usually selects a Baylor polo, so imagine my surprise when Cullen showed up downstairs dressed like this. So well dressed.
On Friday, Cullen and I met Megan for lunch and then came home for a quick nap before a job interview. Cullen requested nap time in Mommy's bed. How could you refuse when you know the outcome will be so cute?
I'm hoping this week will be even more productive with more job searching, more work done around the house, and more time hugging my kiddo. He's cute, and I need to soak it up while I can!
